Origin

The Australian Terrier, it is also affectionately known as "Aussie". They is one of the smallest working terriers. These dog breeds was descended by crossing from Irish Terrier, Cairn Terrier, Yorkshire Terriers, Dandie Dinmont Terrier, and the Skye Terriers.

This little breed was bred to used as vermin hunter, watchdog, tracking, agility, and companion.

These breeds of dogs was registered with the AKC in 1960.

Coat

The little Australian Terrier has a weatherproof double coat, and his coat is about 2 to 3 inches long. The outer coat is rough, straight and harsh. The undercoat is soft, short and dense. His body coat is longer than the tail on the tail, rear legs and feet.

The coat colors comes with blue and tan, solid sandy and solid red with the markings on the head and legs.

This breed sheds little to no hair at all. You'll virtually never find a hair in your home!

Training

The Australian Terrier is bright and intelligent. They is quite easy to train as they are quick to learn and learns new commands quickly. Early socialization and obedience training is a must.

Training this breed needs to be strict because this self-confident dog always has their own way to go. The training should be firmness, fairness, praise and motivation. Most importantly should train with consistency, as these breed will easily bored by repetition.

Grooming 

Grooming this long and shaggy coat is easy and does not need clipping. This breed needs to brushing with a firm bristle brush twice weekly. Brushing with the natural oils will keep the coat to a high gloss. Bathe when is neccessary with using a mild shampoo.

His paws hair need to trim always to keep them clean. Be sure to trim also the hair around the eyes and ears. He needs to be hand-stripped twice per year.

The Australian Terrier is a relatively healthy breed.

Overview

This small little breed is highly spirited, hardy, charming and confident. Although they are small in stature, but they are alert, fearless and bold. They is extremely affectionate to their family and very loyal, but can be wary of strangers.

They will tolerate with the children and get along with other dogs and household pets. They is not to be trusted with the other small pets, remember, he is a hunter.


The Aussie can be a good family, and make a lovely companions.
